Dichterliebe (The loves of a poet) is a series of 16 melodies for solo voice and piano composed by Robert Schumann on poems from the German romantic writer, Heinrich Heine. This work dates from 1840, the year of Schumann’s marriage to the pianist Clara Wieck. Lieder At his death at the age of only thirty-one, Franz Schubert left about a thousand works, of which a little over six hundred lieder. Composed on texts from some of the greatest poets of the German language (Goethe, Schiller, Heine, Rückert), they also included foreign poets such as Walter Scott, Shakespeare or Pétrarque.
